All American Pet Photography Month May 2019
All American Pet Photography Month May 2019
In recognition of our fuzzy, fluffy, feathered best friends, celebrate the month of May with pet photos that capture the unconditional love that they have towards you and your family.
One of my favorite jokes that highlights the dedication and unconditional love that our pets give us, goes something like this:
How can you tell who loves you the most? Your dog, or your wife?
Put them both in the trunk of your car for an hour, then see which one is the happiest to see you.
Looking back at photos of my childhood, some of my most memorable times were shared with my dog “Queenie”. Our family photos always included my dog, whether we were camping, hiking, at a picnic, or opening Christmas presents, she was always there by my side. I strongly believe that she was a key part of my great childhood. Every time I see a childhood photo with my dog, it brings me right back to that moment in time.
Our children’s photos almost always include one or more of our pets. Anytime that our daughter Shana comes for a visit, she has me pull out my camera for a photo session with her dogs. Here are a few photos of Shana with her dogs. It’s quite obvious that there is a lot of love going on and I don’t think that there is anything that makes her happier than time spent with her pets.
Here is a poem by an unknown author that I had posted to one of our pet Instagram accounts that sums up how some of us feel about our pets.
It’s just a dog
From time to time, people tell me, “lighten up, it’s just a dog,” or, “that’s a lot of money for just a dog.” They don’t understand the distance traveled, the time spent, or the costs involved for “just a dog.”
Some of my proudest moments have come about with “just a dog.” Many hours have passed and my only company was “just a dog,” but I did not once feel slighted.
Some of my saddest moments have been brought about by “just a dog,” and in those days of darkness, the gentle touch of “just a dog” gave the comfort and reason to overcome the day.
If you, too, think it’s “just a dog,” then you will probably won’t understand phrases like “just a friend,” “just a sunrise,” or “just a promise.”
“Just a dog” brings into my life the very essence of friendship, trust, and pure unbridled joy.
“Just a dog” brings out the compassion and patience that makes me a better person.
Because of “just a dog,” I will rise early, take long walks and look longingly to the future. So for me and folks like me, it’s not “just a dog” but an embodiment of all hopes and dreams of the future, the fond memories of the past, and the pure joy of the moment.
“Just a dog” brings out what’s good in me and diverts my thoughts away from myself and the worries of the day. I hope that someday they can understand that it’s not “just a dog,” but the thing that gives me humanity and keeps me from being “just a man or woman.”
So the next time you hear the phrase “just a dog,” just smile because they don’t understand.
