Orange County, California Business Headshot Photography What to wear to attract the right client
You’ve recently decided to get new headshots to appear fresh and desirable to new clients. Did you know that what you wear will have your potential client ultimately and subconsciously decide to choose you for your services? They may not consciously make this decision, but if they view your image and see you wearing gaudy jewelry and look even slightly unkempt, they may choose someone else. In this article, we’ll discuss what you can wear or how you can appear in your headshots to attract the right client.
1. Dress for your occupation
Are you an artist? Are you a lawyer? You won’t want to dress in pajamas or like an artist if you’re a lawyer who has to represent clients, now would you? If you’re a psychologist, you wouldn’t dress in a bikini to attract clients to you for the right reason, would you? It’s important you know your occupation and dress for it. Male lawyers should wear well-tailored suits or even a simple button up with a tie. Woman lawyers should avoid all-over prints and go with something bold and striking, allowing them to look fierce and dominant. You want to look like you can make the client win.
2. Choose colors for your skin tone
Your skin tone and other colors should be taken into account. Emerald greens and royal blues look regal and beautiful on darker skin tones, and coral looks great on olive skin tones. For lighter and paler skin tones, darker colors like grey, but avoiding black, look great. If you want to wear black, pair it with something that brings a pop of bold coloring, but not a print that is overwhelming.
3. Choose a color that complements your eyes
A lot of people have stunning eyes and there are colors that will make them pop even more. For brown eyes, purples (whether in makeup or in the outfit), can make them appear soft and almost romantic. For blue eyes, something that matches like blue, green, turquoise, teal, and related colors can make them pop even more.
4. Dress for the shoulders and up
We aren’t saying that you should wear pajamas on the bottom when meeting someone for professional photos, but you’re having headshots done, not a full body shot photoshoot. Your elbows and above should be the most kept and should be in pristine condition for the day of. Don’t choose clothing choices that have the only pops of color beneath these areas – they won’t be seen.
5. Always wear a smile
To seem warm, welcoming, and friendly, wearing a smile is key and has been scientifically proven. When you have a genuine smile in photos, people are more attracted to your photo when choosing someone to work with, as they appear friendlier, as opposed to ones who do not smile.
Choosing the right clothes, attracting the right client
When you’re able to dress properly and appear professional but inviting, you’re going to attract the right client. Those who seek out services subconsciously choose these people because their photos have attracted them more. They may have the same sets of qualifications as the other person, but the better picture wins, unless they meet them in person first.
